Our Story

Jay Sea Foods Processing (Pvt) Ltd. is one of the leading seafood exporters in Sri Lanka and its success is due in large measure to its Founding and Managing Director, Mr. S.H.Jayasena, who pioneered the export of Tuna Loins to the European Market. He began his professional career as a Chartered Mechanical Engineer, becoming the Chief Engineer of the State Fisheries Corporation and then Chief Engineer of Sri Lanka’s State Engineering Corporation. In 1977 he accepted an offer to become Chief Engineer of a Company based in West Africa where he developed his deep interest in all aspects of commercial fishing and returned to Sri Lanka to set up his own Company.
Jay Sea Foods Processing (Pvt) Ltd. began its operations in 1995. With his expert technical knowledge and entrepreneurial skills Mr. Jaysasena created a Company around one of Sri Lanka’s greatest assets: FISH. It began by supplying fresh tuna to a Company which became the biggest Importer of tuna into the U.K. Jay Sea Foods Processing (Pvt) Ltd. now supplies leading Importers in the Netherlands, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, China, Japan, the USA, Canada, Russia, Ukraine and other Eastern European countries. The Company name is now synonymous with products of the highest quality. We supply leading supermarket chains across Europe, via our Buyers and major distributors.
Our products are all sourced fresh from the Indian Ocean and only from fishing vessels that are engaged in sustainable and environmentally responsible long line fishing. We have implemented best in class processing techniques to ensure the highest quality products for our Buyers. Portrayed on left is our founder Mr. Jayasena ; different hat but same safe Head. Over the years he has drawn together a highly trained, dedicated, devoted Team who deservedly enjoy high respect among the Sea Food Industry of Sri Lanka. He welcomed one of his Grandsons into the Company recently. Dumindha joined us in September 2020 and has already begun to demonstrate outstanding potential for taking us into a dynamic future with the rest of the Team. We hope you will join us.

Georgina Barber

Georgina is a Founder Director of the Company alongside Mr. Jayasena. They met in 1962 when he came to Manchester to do Post Graduate Studies in Business Management. Their careers coincided during the following years and in 1995 they set up JSFP together. Most recently she has concentrated on promoting the Company at International Exhibitions and Conferences and presently looks forward to mentoring future leaders of the Company towards sustainable and principled success.

Dumindha Meddegoda

Managing Director / CEO

Dumindha spent four years at Imperial College London where he obtained a Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. On returning to Sri Lanka, he spent 9 years at MAS Holdings, one of the most innovative and progressive Companies in Sri Lanka, primarily in Corporate Finance, Treasury and Strategic Planning and for the last three years as Deputy General Manager. He was very much welcomed into JSFP by his Grandfather who invests great hope in his ability to take the Company through to greater success.

Padmini Meddegoda

Director

Padmini is a B.A. Honours Graduate from the University of Kelaniya. She joined the Company 16 years ago after having worked in Consumer Products and Advertising, as an Account Representative. She oversees the smooth running of all the Company’s clerical and auditing work and is central to all major decisions made by the Board.

Anura Meddegoda

Non-Executive Director

Anura is one of Sri Lanka’s foremost lawyers, being a President’s Counsel. He has an LLM from King’s College London and worked as a Lead Prosecutor at the United Nations War Crimes Tribunal in the Hague for 10 years. After moving back to Sri Lanka he started a very successful legal practice while also serving as Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority of Sri Lanka and on the Board of Sri Lankan Insurance Corporation.

Viraj Balapitiya

Director of Finance

Viraj was recruited 16 years ago to shepherd the Company’s Finances. He is a B.Com graduate and has an MBA which he gained in the UK where he worked for a number of years. Over time, he has taken upon himself a prominent role in all aspects of operations and is a highly respected figure in the Sea Food Industry of Sri Lanka having served as Secretary to the Sea Food Exporters’ Association of Sri Lanka.

Asoka Perera

Director of Quality Assurance

Asoka (BSc, MBA) has been with us for the past 21 years and is Director of Quality Assurance and Deputy Factory Manager. He is a Lead Auditor for Sri Lanka’s Association for Quality, trained as a Lead Assessor at SGS and one of the most highly qualified Practitioners in the Sea Food Industry of Sri Lanka. He represents the Company at International Workshops and Conferences. Asoka has implemented best in class quality standards and ensures that our Company provides only the highest quality seafood to our Buyers. He has been instrumental in establishing “Jay” as a benchmark for quality in the Seafood industry.
